Following the success of the Avengers film, and with Iron Man 3 set to hit theaters next month, the characters who make up Marvels Avengers team are more recognizable than ever. Naturally, the publisher is taking advantage of that fact via merchandise, including the two t-shirts pictured above.

Of course, aside from the cut of the shirts, the second you look at them you instantly know which is meant for boys and which is for girls, and therein lies quite a problem.

These are Marvel’s characters, the foundation of their company. As such, these products represent them, not the manufacturers. When people see this, and are (rightfully) bothered by it, they aren’t going to care what middle man made the shirts. They’re going to instantly direct their ire toward Marvel, as it it will look to them as if Marvel is telling boys they can be heroes, and telling girls that, if they’re lucky, a hero will come save them.

So, it was the first con of the year: Supanova Expo! And it was fantabulous because guess what—I met GAIL SIMONE!!! I’m afraid I got rather tongue-tied again (my curse) but I did manage a word in on how I think her famous innuendo-laden Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode is the greatest thing ever. And I gave her a Huntress badge wagging the “little fish” (see my avatar) in remembrance of that now censored scene.

I also managed in the rest of the day to get a photo with and autograph from Barbara Eden (I Dream of Jeannie – after all, those many months of watching the show for Honours is a memorable time) and Alex Kingston (ER, Doctor Who, Arrow). Both were lovely ladies. I loved how Alex said “hello hello” to me in that chirpy English way of hers that I’ve always loved.

I also met Terry and Rachel Dodson, who were both really nice people, and it was great seeing the partnership between them. I have commissioned Terry to draw me a Batman sketch, so hopefully that will be completed tomorrow? I can’t wait to see the result!!!

Also, remember that TDKR Catwoman tee I was going to design? I finished it and printed it on time (I am queen of the deadline)! (see photo evidence, lol) DOUBLE YES! Gail’s husband, and Barbara Eden also commented on it, so that’s positive feedback! My manager at work even wants one now. :D

Unfortunate part was that I didn’t really get any time left to check out the artists alley or the other stores. But that’s possibly a good thing because … more moneys saved! I did buy a sort of exorbitant Batman hoodie though. What can I say, winter’s coming! ;)

At least for myself first. And then maybe I’ll sell them. Because all the designs I’ve seen by WB, DC, et al are just CRAP. I know, ker-razy, given my track record in getting anything done, but there you go. I go where my muse goes.
